Signs your lock needs attention
- The key is hard to turn or you have to jiggle it
- The door has to be pushed or pulled before the lock will work
- The latch doesn't catch, so the door swings open
- The handle is loose, droops or doesn't spring back
- The deadbolt doesn't fully extend into the frame
- A key has snapped off inside the lock
Repair first, replace if needed
Many lock problems aren't the lock at all. Doors drop on their hinges and timber swells in Sydney's humid summers, so the bolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. Adjusting the strike plate or the door often fixes the problem without new hardware.
Inside the lock, worn springs, dirt and old grease can make it stiff. We clean and service the mechanism with the right lubricant. Household oils attract dust and make things worse over time. If parts are worn out or the lock is past saving, we explain the options and give you a price for a replacement.
Don't wait for it to fail
A lock that's getting harder to use usually gets worse, and it tends to fail at the worst moment, often with you on the wrong side of the door. Fixing it early costs less than a lockout and keeps your home or business secure.
